The Chainlink

I'm looking for an online map (preferably Google Map or PDF) of the Robert McClory Trail north or Highland Park. I made it to up on the Green Bay Trail up through Highland Park to Highwood, but I didn't venture further north without a map.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a text link containing a partial description of the trail:

Here's a website to help start your quest, although I didn't see the McClory trail mentioned. It might be embedded within the ones mentioned, or maybe you'll find an explicit link to it.

Let me know if you find something in good detail since a Chicago-Milwaukee trip is in my head for this year or next. Thx. Also, search the forums here on Chainlink because there was a Chicago-Milwaukee trip mentioned as well.
The attached file is the McClory path in kml (Google Earth format).

Attached is the route we look for the Milwaukee 2.0 trip a few weeks back.

From Kenosha to Milwaukee there are trails nearer to the lake which we did not take in the interest of time. Also, if you dont mind a few extra miles, ride the Kenosha waterfront and the Root River Trail in Racine. They're nice.

Here is a good site for trails in the area:

Cool. What's the name of the Wisconsin portion of the trail? Can you share expectations and estimates (e.g. times, terrain conditions) from your experience on that trip?
Trails are all crushed gravel from North Chicago on. You'll have to ride on streets to connect to trails in Kenosha and Racine. Riding through North Chicago and Waukegan is really, really dreary. The time it will take depends on how good of a rider you are. Milwaukee 2.0 took 9 hours for the slow riders, but we had a lot of delays due to mechanical trouble.

Some info on the WI portion:

Super big sigggghhhhh..... I've posted this info again and again. The official maps are as follows:

Lake County bike map, Robert McClory trail

Kenosha bike map, Kenosha streets and lakefront, Kenosha County trail

Racine bike map, Racine streets and lakefront, Racine County trail

City of Racine bike map, Racine streets and lakefront detail

I listed all this on the Madison ride web page months ago:

There's another version of the Kenosha map here from Kenosha CVB:

All official and you can get the hard copy if you call them.
Thanks for the links, Matt.

For the record, I did search the forum before I posted my question and I found at least one of your posts of links. However, I'm still looking for a more detailed map of the McClory path. The pdf provided by Lake County is good, but (and maybe I'm dreaming here) I'd ideally like to find a map similar to the Chicago Bicycle Map where *every* street is labeled, not just a squiggly line indicating the general direction. Or at least the names of streets with bike lanes and major arteries.

Envane X: Your Google Earth kml file finally convinced me to download and install Google Earth. Wow! Nice program. I think I can figure out how to connect from Highland Park to the McClory path now. Now I just need to figure out how to fold up Google Earth and put it in my backpack. :)
Ya! Google Earth is great! On a Mac and on Windows you can do a screen capture - in Windows it's "CTRL-ALT-PRTSCN", then head to Photoshop, Paint, or your favorite image editing software and hit "PASTE" under the "EDIT" menu. I like to transfer said maps to Powerpoint and then print them out in booklet form. Cool thing about Powerpoint is that you can make notes and highlight stuff and keep it all together as a comprehensive guide.

I plugged the McClory path into my GPS last year. You can find the GPS compatible file and the full KML on my Chainlink page. Glad envane x was able to bring you up to speed- he was a great partner and a good sport all the way to Madison.
