First picture: a post in the middle of the trail is brilliant. Particularly with nothing very illuminating around it. And nothing reflective on it.

Second picture: the green paint seems to have some wet grip, but the white paint on it and at the circle a short way south is very slick.
It seems to be, yes. There's still stuff to be done (paint, signs, landscaping), but for the most part, it all seems to be operable. There's work being done on the alternate pedestrian portions in a few spots. Also sporadic work on the main sections (evening out bumps, intersections, manhole covers, etc). But on the whole, it's open and it's smooth riding. Just a little dark in parts.

Not having at least the white lines on the outside edges of the LFT is a hazard, especially in the sections that have no lights, or are without functioning lights. I caught the edge of the trail just south of the Buena curve, but luckily managed to not go down in the complete darkness the first evening after the time change.

As a pretty regular rider along portions of the north trail, I have just upgraded the lighting on my bike to an actual 12v fog light designed for a truck. Certain portions of the trail, particularly between Fullerton and Diversey, as well as Recreation Drive near Addison, are completely pitch black darkness. My piddly handlebar light did nothing at all to penetrate the darkness. I honestly could not see the pedestrians ahead of me (nor the bike ninjas). I felt it was truly dangerous.
Before anyone gives me gruff about the bright light, I can control it via my thumb with a handlebar switch. If I see a light coming ahead of me, I turn it off. But fair warning: if you don't have a light on your bike and you're coming at me, expect to be blinded.

i wouldn't assume anything regarding lighting on the lakefront trail; there have been dark stretches for years that never got addressed.
