New Bike Shop

Anyone know anything about a new bike shop going in at 4912(ish) N. Elston?

No, but thanks...it's only a couple blocks from my house. I'll check it out tomorrow and give a report. :)

I always travel east on Irvingpark and south on Elston...I would have never run across it.

I'm sure they remodeled the front...but what was going on in there?

I checked out the name as I rode into work this morning.

 

This is their website (http://xolobikes.info), but I'm not sure they are open, at least it doesn't look like it when I ride by in the afternoon.

Anyone know if they have a second hand dealers license? I'm always a bit weary of folks posing as a bike shop without the proper legal papers, especially when many have proven quite sketchy. Anybody have the pleasure of dealing with "Fastlane Cyclery"?

-and it looks like, from the pictures in that link like that brick wall behind all those bikes needs to be tuckpointed.  Someone should report them to the city building inspectors too.  If we all stick together and complain with the city I'm sure we can get this shop closed right quick and the owners back on unemployment.

Putting on my Sherlock Holmes deerstalker cap, this is what I've found....

They've got a Facebook page, but no Yelp reviews (yet). They appear to be an appointment-only "customization shop".  A number of legit "likes" on Facebook (Half Acre Brewery, FEW distillery, etc.) which makes me think they're not shady, just a part-time club-like shop, open whenever anyone's free to work.

It will be quite convenient to patronize them to pick up a tire/tube/etc. should I need to when (and if) they establish regular hours since they are about half way in my commute from UIC to Skokie.

 

I have seen people standing outside on occasion with the door open now that I think about.

website clearly states:

Saturday      9am - 4pm
Sunday         9am - 6pm

I'm still going to scout the location today and check all zoning laws. ;)
