Detroit: Feral City or Incubator for the Future?

Interesting post on the future of Detroit... aka "What to do with a dying city?"

I keep hearing about really innovative community-based stuff going on in the Motor City. Any MI natives want to lead an urban bike tour sometime?

However, I can't help but think back to the Kentucky Fried Movie: "Take him... to Detroit!"

All I can think of is RoboCop - that was set in Detroit!

Technically, it was set in "New Detroit" although many of the exteriors were shot in Dallas, TX (I only know that because I grew up in Dallas).
