The Chainlink

Any body have close encounters of the furry kind this week? How do you deal with animals when biking?

I had a doggie like this run after me last night. He was a very naughty. He chased all 240 lbs of me and almost bit me. Is it better to bite the dog or talk nice to him? I know if I was riding I would have tried to out motor him. As for other critters, I try to be nice to them.

Is this it?
Netflix was my next stop after youtube :)
I try to scare the bejesus out of them, depending on what breed they are. Obviously the big one's I just pedal like mad.

While testing out my new Felt about 3 years ago along the bike path I happened upon a Coyote. It crouched low when I approached, I thought it was a dog, so I slowed down. It was definitely not scared of people, wary of me, but not scared. Very interesting encounter. I stopped and it just sat on its haunches and stared back. When I got back on my bike she loped behind me for about 25 feet before getting bored and heading toward some bushes by the lake. Pretty cool encounter.

One other animal story I can think of was last Spring when I did the 3-state-3-mountain ride in Chattanooga. My partner dropped out so I was on the course with no one around me, I looked up and there were vultures circling overhead. I thought that was pretty funny . . . lots of road kill in Tennessee (lucky I wasn't one of them).
I almost hit a deer on the north branch trail. Little buggers are tame up here... Gotta start carrying an airhorn. That would probably funk out the dogs too...
