Description

Organized 11 years ago by the venerable John Greenfield, this beloved annual ride takes an moderate pace for a 100 mile route around the edge of our beautiful city.

An excellent first "Century" ride with it's many CTA bail-out options for peace of mind, this ride is perfect for those who think they might, but aren't sure yet that they can handle a full 100 miles in a day.  (Spoiler Alert--Turns out, you totally can!)

John is stepping aside this year to work on other rides, so some of us that love this ride are keeping the tradition alive with a few minor alterations.

Start getting excited, start getting your friends excited, and stay tuned here for emerging details!

Meet-up time--8:00 am, y'all!

Thanks to David for organizing and cheers to the late night crew who made it right to the end. I had a fantastic time! Definitely one of the most memorable rides I've done in Chicago.

Is it too late to meet up with this ride?

I've copied yesterday's awesome Perimeter ride #11 to the MassUp.us archives so it'll always be available at
http://massup.us/now?d=20120929

My photos (though they're the same as posted here) are at
http://massup.us/now/c?d=20120929&o=p

And the plot is at
http://massup.us/now/plot?d=20120929

The plot isn't smooth because to save phone battery I was only posting every few minutes (AND the new iOS has a bug effecting accuracy, grrr), but it does the job.
Blue line is what we rode, red line is the planned route, green dots indicate photos.

And, amazing job y'all leaders. Nobody could've done it better.

peace yall - an incredibly awesome, deeply beautiful, and hugely challenging ride! a heartfelt congrats and thanks to my friends Dave, the Chuckster (this vegan's arch nemesis, ha!) and everyone who helped with the effort on planning, organizing and executing a very cool ride!!! shout out to John Greenfield also for the history of the ride that brought yesterday to life. highlights for me were Jera's pumpkin pancakes, the entire Southeast portion of the ride, Pullman & Argus Brewery, riding through the grass in dan ryan woods, hanging out with all & making new friends, and riding sweep with Derrick James, Big Vince, and Spencer. congrats all and thanks for a wonderful riding experience! rock on...

Once again a freat ride. Highlights included the Velodrome, which was a lot of fun to watch, Argus brewery, whose owners were uber-friendly, and skipping the Major Taylor trail in favor of Longwood drive.

Thanks to David for putting it together and Olatunji who was the best sweep I've ever seen.

Awesome ride, really enjoyed it all, but especially riding around the Pullman factory and neighborhood and through many of the other South and West side neighborhoods. Thanks David for pulling this all together.

This was the best ride ever! Thank you everyone who mapped and prerode and organized and set up the stops and led us and swept and stayed with our hurt comrade and rode this gorgeous day!

If you slept in and miss us at The Fountain, don't fret--the first leg of the route is down the LSP, and at two abreast, we won't be able to go very fast--you can totally catch us.

If you REALLY slept in--blast straight to Chicago Velo Campus.  We're gonna hang out there for half an hour at least while they show us how awesome their Saturdays can be.
