This ride brings us through the North Shore ravines, prairies, bluffs, and dunes that lie beyond Chicago as we ride towards the youngest land in Illinois, and enter Illinois Beach State Park. Welcome to a landscape that changes on every visit, where ice volcanoes, quick sand, and ridge and swales develop and shift throughout the year.
As we traverse north, we'll feast our eyes upon architectural masterpieces, learn about towns, the lay of the land, and the unique ecosystems along the way, as we drop knowledge on top of your noggins at each break point.
At the Park: We'll discover the Dead River, go on a guided Nature walk, and learn what the Chicago area looked like before European settlement. And what better way to end our first day of riding than to relax around a campfire and waves on the shores of Lake Michigan. For Day 2 we will have a full day to explore both units of the park before heading home on the train later Sunday evening.
