3,000 miles in 2 hours!
George Christensen spent this past October and November bicycling some 3,000 miles about China, starting in Hong Kong and ending up in Beijing. Although he visited a few tourist sites (the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, the Three Gorges Dam, Mao Zedong's home town, the Great Wall) he spent most of his time passing through towns and cities and rural areas rarely visited by outsiders, once inadvertently slipping into a Forbidden Zone. He gained a unique perspective on China, dining mostly in small road side cafes and camping in forests and fields. George will give a fresh, first-hand report on the rapidly growing Chinese economy and how this sudden prosperity is affecting the Chinese in his latest slide show for the Lincoln-Belmont Chicago Public Library Armchair Travel Series.
