Description

The Ride of Silence is a silent procession of bicyclists to honor those who have been killed or injured while bicycling on public roadways.

We ride in silence on this one night each year in unity with cyclists around the world to silently assert our right to share the road.

In Chicago AND communities worldwide

(Including local suburbs...Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Crystal Lake, Downers Grove, Elk Grove Village, Elmhurst, Evanston, Geneva, Joliet, McHenry, Oak Lawn, Oak Park, etc)

Free, open participation.
Wear black armbands to honor a cyclist who was killed;
Wear red armbands to honor a cyclist injured by a motorist.
Helmets encouraged.

Comment by Nançois on May 21, 2014 at 4:49pm: I'm really sorry to miss this one, but Rob and I just took a break from our two-week National Park camping trip to join the first annual Ride of Silence in Boulder, CO. They had a very nice turnout of serious bikers to support the ride and we were happy to be able to find a ride near where we are camping. We will plan to be back in Chicago for next years ride.

We will depart Daley Plaza at 6:30pm, visiting Hector Avalos' ghost bike and then returning back through the loop to conclude at Bobby Cann's ghost bike.

A post-ride gathering will be held at Yojimbo's Garage (directly across from Bobby Cann's ghost bike).
