Description

Enjoy the beauty of our neighborhood on two wheels this Sunday as we tour Rogers Park during my 8th Annual 49th Ward Community Bike Ride. The day will start with registration at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, July 31, at my 49th Ward Service office, 7356 N. Greenview. Breakfast snacks will be served, and then we’ll kick off the bike ride promptly at 8 a.m. Our tour of Rogers Park will conclude at Glenwood Sunday Market’sBike Day.

For everyone’s safety, we ask that all bike riders be at least 16 years of age.

Traffic Sunday morning is light and the morning air is fresh–the perfect time for a bike ride.  After starting the day with a light breakfast snack, we’ll embark on an hour-long bicycle tour of the 49th Ward.

Each year we explore another part of Rogers Park and the 49th Ward. Those who don’t have a bike, but would like to join our tour, can take advantage of the Divvy Bike Share program. Simply go to a Divvy Bike station close to your home, rent one of the Divvy bikes and ride over to my office for the tour. Also, there’s a station on Jarvis near my office.  Riders must return the bike to a Divvy station every 30 minutes to recharge.

Divvy stations now are located throughout the ward after the recent installation of more locations north of Touhy. View a list of Divvy Bike share stations in the 49th Ward. Zoom in on Rogers Park to see the locations.

Our bike tour will pass by a number of the Divvy station sites, so you’ll be able to recharge your bike during the course of our tour.

Our tour will conclude at the Glenwood Sunday Market, which will be hosting a special bike-themed event, open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Look for games, prizes, and special guests, including the city’s Bicycle Ambassadors (offering bike safety information and free helmet fittings) and The Recyclery & ChainLinks (providing complimentary bike tune-ups on a first come, first served basis). Park your bike at the bicycle parking lot located at the Lunt entrance to the Morse Red Line stop and shop at one of the best farmers markets in Chicago!

The Chicago Bicycling Ambassadors will provide a safety escort and will be on hand to answer questions about the rules of the road for cyclists.

Whether you’re a hardcore bicycling enthusiast, or simply want to spend a nice summer morning riding your bike through the neighborhood, the 49th Ward Community Bike Ride is the place to be.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday morning, July 31!

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
