The city of Chicago is making improvements to a popular trail that runs along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

A statement from the mayor's office says the improvements will include resurfacing and paving. It says seven miles of the Chicago Lakefront Trail will be resurfaced this summer.

Chicago Park District Board President Jesse Ruiz says such trails aren't only used by Chicagoans for recreation but also for transit.

The portions seem to be starting from the north end working south a few hundred feet at a time. The entire section that's being worked on is fenced off and everyone needs to use the grass or the gravel verge where there is one.

From the top at Ardmore to roughly Hollywood the trail has gotten a new sticky surface sprayed over the existing material, with new paint. The next section has been blocked off and looks like it's being sprayed, too.
