Extreme Fat Biking: National Champion, Tim Johnson Riding Up Mount Washington

Chainlink's Brett Ratner has been testing a fat bike (article coming soon) and really loves it. He took the fat bike to Ray's in Milwaukee last night and went riding in the snow on the mountain biking trails at Kettle Moraine South. Once we received the bike, it opened our eyes to how much this sport is catching on and just how fun a fat bike can be. So many races and rides are available (see our calendar for lots of fat bike fun), fat bikes are a great, fun alternative to mountain bikes and cyclocross bikes.

America’s first and oldest manmade attraction, the Mount Washington Auto Road has never welcomed a two-wheeled vehicle in the middle of winter, until now. Professional cyclist Tim Johnson ascended 4,685 feet on an icy 14-percent grade slope in one-hour, forty-five minutes and 48 seconds (01:45:48) by utilizing the latest fat bike technology to push the limits of what is capable on a bicycle.

Here's video of Tim Johnson making the climb up Mount Washington.

Cool article, mt Washington is a great place to visit.   My question is, was it really -19?  He's not wearing any sort of face mask.
