The Chainlink

Hey Chainlinkers-

Anyone interested (or already signed up) in doing the inaugural Climate Ride - Midwest event this year? It takes place from September 6th - September 9th. The ride is a 4-day fully supported ride from Grand Haven, MI to Grant Park.

For more information --> http://www.climateride.org/

Lodging options include free camping or for an additional fee staying in B&B/Inns or Hotels.

COST:

The registration fee is $100 ($75 using code GRSPECIAL). Riders are required to raise $2,800 or self-contribute the funds. The rider chooses how to allocate the full amount to Climate Ride's 84 partner organizations including our local greats - Active Transportation Alliance, World Bicycle Relief and the Alliance for the Great Lakes.

I just signed up independently and created team CaptivEdge. I'm looking for other riders to join me in this adventure. I can do any pace but generally like to ride hard so I get to the beer first.

Thanks for reading and Ride On!

Someone on saturday was asking me about joining a Climate Ride team.

It sounded interesting until the donation requirements come up.  I'm interested to see what route they plan through Indiana, though.

Yes, rather grass roots isn't it?

Fundraising is a big part of what makes Climate Ride the impactful organization that it is. Climate Ride has so far raised over $1.5 million for 80+ environmental nonprofits that work on everything—as Neal noted—from clean and active transportation to Great Lakes conservation and environmentally-friendly legislation. It is critical work and Climate Ride provides much needed funds for these worthwhile nonprofits. Plus, the ride experience itself is just awesome.

The Midwest ride is actually from Grand Rapids to Chicago, but it does go through Grand Haven as well. The route through Indiana mostly stays along the lakeshore except from Chesterton to Whiting, where it heads south to avoid all the factories.

Hope this helps. Good luck building your team, Neal!

80+ non-profits

So your midwestern dollars go to support organizations in Massachusetts, California, New York, Maryland, Virginia, etc. I didn't click through each one, but I recognized 3 based in Illinois (ATA, LIB, and Illinois Environmental Council). So participants' expatriated dollars will go to support what may or may not be worthy causes (as deemed by Climate Ride in its sole discretion).

Riders choose from the 80+ beneficiaries when they register, so it is at the rider's discretion to whom their fundraising dollars go. Also, there are Climate Rides on the east and west coasts as well.
