The Chainlink

Today I took a short ride between Old Town and Evanston, going out on a few streets I haven't ridden on since Christmas.  There weren't too many cars,  so I was able to pick my way through, though as usual some drivers weren't very accommodating.  In weekday traffic, it would have been an unpleasant ride along much of my route.

Since I do most of my errands by bike, the businesses I choose to visit are those most accessible by bike.  I can see that, as the snow and ice subside,  and I get back to riding oustside my neighborhood again, the street conditions will probably cause me to look for some different destinstions for shopping and entertainment.

Finally, I'll note that I encountered one of my least favorite driver habits many times today.   Often I had to move left to go around craters.  I do this by signaling a left turn and making a wide, gradual arc around the crater.  What I hope is that drivers behind me will slow down for a second and let me do this.  Too often, their reaction is to speed up and box me in, so that I have to make a quick stop.  *Sigh*

I have seen multiple monstrous, crash and destroy a rim if you hit them pot holes. It's not quite surface of the moon but its getting there.

hahaha nice.

I had one driver refuse to let me go around a huge crater; instead, he sped up and passed me.  There was a little justice, however, as he immediately ran into twin craters than swallowed both front wheels of his car.  I gave him the thumbs up ;-)

Karma can be a bitch, eh?  ;)

Not so much craters but a string of potholes run up the far north end (Foster-ish to Ridge) of Ravenswood. I played "chicken" the other day riding into oncoming traffic then gave up and went over to the sidewalk.

Good news is it's been dry and they are filling them in nicely.
