The Chainlink

The lake front trail is notable for all the things it DOESN'T have yet

-those retarded quad-barges

-Segways

-rent-a-bike bikers

-Strollers

-Tourists

-Kids

All it did have was people who knew what they were doing: thermals, layers, covering distance.  All the rest of the trail cloggers will show in time but for a bit here just serious business at decent speeds and it's beautiful.

The flintstone mobiles are already on the trail.  I ran across one of those by Monroe Harbor last weekend.  Also lots of people with dogs on (and some off) leashes.

Cheer up, Grandads! Nothing wrong with people enjoying the outdoors on the lakefront.

Yes, the seasonal users were out in droves this morning. Can't blame them--it's gorgeous out there. I just wish my alternate route weren't Wells street. That pavement is horrible.

I started seeing the quads on Thursday just before Easter.  The cold mornings are still keeping a lot of commuters in but the afternoon tourists and exercise types are starting to appear after work.

Just wait for sand volleyball season to start.

Seriously, lighten up Francis.  Enjoy the sunshine and watch out for potholes.

Haddon,

It is not acceptable to use the term "retarded" in this manner. The Chainlink is a respectful place - at least when it comes to entire categories of people.

Here is an explanation that makes more sense than I ever could:

Thanks! Also, yes enjoy the sunshine!

I think i am going to limit myself to the morning on the path,

as a 6 year veteran of daily LFP commuting, i find that the path is usually never terrible in the mornings, even in the height of summer. maybe it's a time thing, i typically hop on the path at oak street around 7:40ish am and exit at ardmore by 8:00ish am.

but the evenings (6:00ish pm) are a different story. once beach volleyball season arrives, the LFP can be virtually unrideable. however, my best street alternate from downtown evanston to my west loop home is clark to halsted ALL the way across the entire northside of the city, which at rush hour can be a slow-ass slog as well.

life in the big city!

-I agree on the timing thing, even on a Saturday in summer if I hit the trail before 6am I can do the full loop (59 south 59 north) with out much problem.  This works well as I can take a shower and go back to bed for a bit and hit the rest of the day fresh.

but forgot to include:

-the fucking air and water show

[which has a special place in my hateful heart since every year I get to the that stretch north of Navy Pier (I call it the velodrome since it's at a tilt and its one of the places you can go full on) and it's slammed and I realize my ride is shot)]

For attitude, proper meme deployment and technical ability I would like to inform the world I now have an insane crush on Jennifer on the Lake.

Oh, you're one of *those* guys. Heh.

Other than the air and water show and a few weekend charity run/walk events even on the worst days it's better than the streets.

Except maybe these days:
