Evanston cyclists, residents at odds over new protected bike lanes

About 20 bike riders, the Hennelly-Scott family among them, gathered near the corner of Church Street and Dodge Avenue last Thursday to show support for the new lane on Dodge, which runs from Howard Street to Lake Avenue, just south of Evanston Township High School.

The gathering came three days after a group of homeowners, many living in the 300 block of Dodge Avenue, turned up at the Evanston City Council meeting July 25 to voice concerns about safety hazards such as backing up of buses and the impeding of emergency vehicles as a result of the narrowing of the street.
