Description
The long-delayed return to Rockford for the CBES.
Take the 8:30 AM UP NW Metra to Harvard. Ride to Carlyle Brewing, then a short hop to Rockford Brewing, then to PiG Minds in a "suburb" of R-town, then back to Harvard. There is a 7:35 PM train and a 9:35 train back. 73 miles total.
Bring: Water, snacks, flat fixing gear, lights, TiNa.
12 mph minimum pace: its a long ride and no one wants to sleep in a farmer's field outside of Harvard.
Tentative "relaxed pace" itinerary:
10:30 Arrive Harvard
1:30 Carlyle
3:00 Rockford Brewing
4:00 Leave Rockford Brewing
5:00 Arrive PiG Minds
6:30 Leave PiG Minds
9:00 Arrive Harvard

In regard to Metra tickets, purchasing via the Ventra mobile app is also a nifty option, as it doesn't require cash :)

Do I buy a ticket ON the train?
Yes — there is no penalty to purchase a weekend pass from the conductor on the train, which is the best value for the round-trip.
