Description

The shortening days do not lie: Bike Fall, and then Bike Winter are around the corner. "Bike Fall" refers to the time of year when people get discouraged by cold, wet and, worst of all, variable weather. The secret is that winter riding is generally easier than riding in the spring and fall. Learn how and why by coming to the Bike Winter Kick Off Workshop  which is held on World Car-Free Day in honor of the many people who have been inspired to sell their cars once they realized that cycling can be a year round form of transportation. This will also be the sticker unveiling/release for this year's sticker--be among the first to sport the new design! We will also be handing out gaitors (ear coverings)--Bike Winter newbies get first dibs.

Glad you're enjoying it. I'll have 30 more to give away at Critical Mass on Friday!

I realize I never figured out who to thank for the sweet new ear covering I got at this event. So, thanks to whoever made them with love and brought them to the meeting! An nice encouragement for new folks. Wonderful event overall.

Thanks for the kind words. I had a great time and was so grateful for the generous vibe in the room. We came up with lots of great tips. A bunch of people told me afterwards that they felt inspired to try their first bike winter.  Yay!

Agree, Gin was fantastic.  Thanks for the great turnout-- between 50 and 60, the majority newbies.  Always peculiar when the number of attendees matches the RSVPs :-)

Rhea, will depend on where the folks who attended decide to distribute stickers.  I didn't pay any attention to who took how many-- I think about 1100 left the Billy Goat.

We should have some at the next few 'big' bike events e.g. Critical Mass next Friday.

Are the stickers available only tonight or will shops have them as well?

This will be my first winter cycling.  My fiance Melanie did it last year and after watching her do it I've decided to give it a try myself.  We are going to be there tonight and I'm looking very forward to gathering all the tips and advice that I can before I head into this awesome experience. I want to stop using our car all together, if possible.

Wow--looks like we are going to have a great turn out. We'll take the temperature of the room to see how much time should be devoted to tips verses planning.

I've been off my bike after a torn meniscus this summer. Looking forward to getting back into the groove. Please say hi, strangers/friends I haven't made yet.
