Through the grapevine: A memorial to Virginia Murray is going up on Thursday 7/7/16 at 7pm at Belmont and Sacramento.

Does anyone know if there is currently any type of memorial for Virginia Murray at Belmont and Sacramento? (Pictures?) I've heard that a few cyclists who regularly ride this area and came up on the tragic scene that day, were deeply affected and were working at getting a ghost bike ready/installed.

I've added Blaine "Beezy" Klingenberg to the map of Chicago Ghost Bikes.  A single white wheel, installed by messenger friends on a hightraffic hypercommerce corner, so no telling how long it'll stay, but it's a thing.  Some of them are discussing installing one for the recent Divvy death.

From Lindy:
Meeting Planned for Crash Victim Families

My life was forever changed when my husband, Jay, was killed in 2014, struck from behind while riding his bicycle by a then 89-year-old driver returning home at dusk in a rental car after visiting his wife in a nursing home. A volatile combination of circumstances. On a well-lit major Chicago street he did not see the grown man on a large bicycle directly in front of him and, to this day, retains his license to drive.

I'm asking crash victims and families to join me to talk about forming a group to advocate for changes to make our streets safe (not just safer) for all bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers. Now would be an ideal time to channel our pain and anger to work with the Active Transportation Alliance and Chicago's Vision Zero initiatives and together speak with a strong and powerful voice - We all have the right to travel in safety, as well as the obligation to do our travels safely. When & Where: Wednesday, July 27, 6:00 pm Active Transportation Alliance 9 W. Hubbard St., Suite 402 Chicago 60654 No commitments, nothing formal, just an opportunity to talk and listen, learn and share, and see where we might want to go on from there.

I've installed half a dozen ghost bikes over the years. To the best of my knowledge there was no dedicated group. Instead it was an ever changing group of individuals that was involved with preparation and installation. The only constant was the person who started this thread

Yasmeen, have you considered contacting him directly, instaed of through this board? He may not even get the messages ( I have shut off most of my email notifications)

I don't think it will hurt to have a resource on The Chainlink with a page explaining the process, provided some contacts, etc. I am not sure if the same people are still involved. They did a wonderful job before but it's also a time-consuming task and maybe they want to pass the torch or have more help?

I saw a discussion on FB this morning that led me to believe there are many people that think RoS is responsible for building, installing and maintaining the ghost bikes (I thought that was the case as well). I think there's an opportunity to help clear up the confusion and misinformation with a little clarity.

It is worth noting, that Jay's widow noted difficulty last night when figuring out who to contact, that prompted the delay in having a bike installed for her husband.

Before I joined this community I figured they were only produced if the cyclist had an intimate group of cyclist friends who could coordinate an install, which isn't true for all cyclists.

I don't mind helping with these installs, as ghost bikes are important for many reasons.

But I think it would be great to answer the question, who is our key resource if someone requests a bike and isn't able to install the bike themselves.

If we just let it be unoffical, and we find people each time, that's fine. But I am also of the understanding that their is a group dedicated to this, I just don't know who they are.
