Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society
Information
Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).
Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

I managed to make the trip on Saturday. As expected wind was a factor for all but the last 15 miles. I didn't see a soul crazy enough to be traveling north the entire trip. Wisconsin portion of the route was a highlight, nicely maintained trails, scenic farming roads/highways and beautiful trees peppered the route. Departed Chicago at 8:45am(waiting out rain), rolled into MKE at 4:30pm. Got food at Milwaukee Ale House, headed to Milwaukee Brewery for a couple samples and walked around the Public market and picked up beer for the train ride home. Amtrak was a breeze, very friendly and accommodating regarding loading bikes. Would do it again it a heart beat...as long as winds are less than 20mph :P

being a wimp, i'd take the train there (40% rain 4 to 11 am) and ride back (winds N at 15 to 25 mph)

Bon Voyage, Dane! Cant make it tomorrow. Looking forward to a ride report. I think the Lakefront Brewing tours may be so amusing because the guides drink more than the guests.

Lakefront Brewing is just north of downtown (though not on the lakefrontm rather they're right on the river). Best beer tour I've been on and they're generous with the samples (though the tours cost money).

I'm planning on riding to Milwaukee and taking the Amtrak back tomorrow. Leaving Chicago around 7:30am -- should have around 3 hrs to eat/drink/etc when in Milwaukee. If anyone is interested in joining let me know :P

I rode to Milwaukee twice. Its about 90 miles or so depending on where you start. Its doable but if the last train back is 730 then not really much time to see anything in Milwaukee once you get there.
