The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

love that video. actually, one of my cases for NOT having bike lanes protected by curbs. it limits the safe maneauvers you can do to get out of the way of things that get  into the lane anyways. (garbage, snow, ice, raccoons, pedestrians etc)

Com Ed blocking Division street but I get that because the manholes are in the bike lane but...The seperate bike lane on Clybourn is still wide enough to park in and completely block. Thanks.

Southbound Elston just north of Pulaski yesterday. Once again, note parking spot to the right of the car....

We actually saw the driver come out to the car and get in.... and it was a young male. Not sure how to interpret that. !!!!!

Milwaukee north of Kinzie, around 5:15 pm tonight. The guy was reversing down the bike lane until I stopped in the lane to take the picture. He pulled forward a couple car lengths, and as I rode past screamed out the passenger window, "Nosy f*ck!" I stopped and said "Excuse me?" He yelled "What do you care, huh, why do you care?" to which I calmly replied, "Because you are doing something illegal." He had no response.

I have said "You are stopped in a lane of traffic" It usually catches them off guard. I don't think a lot of drivers think of the bike lane as a lane of traffic.

Nice, I think I will borrow that!

When I took this I was in the alley where she could have turned to drop off her stuff.

Heading south on Desplaines at Madison Ave at around 6am this morning.

Wells at Kinzie around 3 pm today. The white car left as I was taking pictures, only to be replaced by another car standing in the lane.
