The Chainlink

I recently rode the LFP for the first time since they opened up the new segment by Fullerton and I was disappointed to see that they've already torn up the paved detour path.

Does anyone know if this is just temporary, or is the plan to go back to the dirt path on the upper section?

It would be nice to have a paved alternative when the LFP near the lake at Fullerton is flooded, or iced, or sandy, like it is now.

And who do I contact to get that sand cleared? 311? The park district? Anyone have a link? The thick sand took me by surprise the other night. It's pretty dark there.

I noticed that as well. One would hope that the way they filled in that section would minimize the chances of waves splashing the path. Before, didn't the water splash directly against a bit of breakwater? Now there is a bit of beach sand which will hopefully absorb some of the energy.

Except now the path is getting covered in that beach sand. Should I report it to 311 or somewhere else?

You could (311), but CPD tends to clean sand off the path pretty regularly.

I took this at 4:00 p.m. today. They wwere laying down and grating sand and edging the alternative path with metal slats. So, it looks like paving will occur shortly.

You can fill out this online form on the Park District website:

Thanks. The sand was cleared when I rode last night. I guess patience works too.

But does anyone know if that alternate path, higher up, is gone for good?

Let's try this again. I did not say anything about clearing the sand; on Friday they were laying down sand/clay/composite and side rails. This was being done, I assume, in advance of paving, unless it is crushed limestone.

Does anyone know what the lighting plan is for the new section of trail?  There are no light poles next to the trail, which is now being lit by temporary construction lights nearby.
