Description

No, this isn't about making direct amends to the people we've harmed whenever doing so is possible and won't injure them or others.

It's about trying to ride to Three Floyds every month this year! Now there's a consistent schedule -- the 4th Saturday of every month -- others have opportunities to lead (I can't make it every time), and you can qualify for the F-12 Award.

September is National Century Month, so this step is a century -- if you ride enough extra to and from the start. The ride takes the lakefront trail south from the Clock Tower. You can join up anywhere along the trail. Just let the group know where so they can look for you.

35 miles to Three Floyds + 10 miles to Flossmoor Station = 45 miles. Take the Metra Electric home or ride another 30 miles to Brixie's = 75 miles. Take the BNSF home or ride another 20 miles to Revolution, West Lakeview, and back to the clock tower = 95 miles. 15-18 mph. Bring money, government-issued ID, a lock, lights since we're staying out late, water and snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago.

Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, Flossmoor Metra Electric train schedule, Brookfield BNSF train schedule, Metra policy, and, to save a minute at the start, the nifty online CCC waiver.

Great fun.  Ended up with 103. Also learned at Half Acre that Bob likes girlie beers.  Who knew.

i had a fun day, thanks, everyone, for coming. fyi we did were able to find seats at half acre, and had a nice conversation with the couple next to us about beer and puerto rico.

Changed my status.  I have never been to Half Acre.  Would like to try.  But I am game for anything in the city.  Will be biking home to Rogers Park at the end, so north is good for me.

steve, yes, i'm really hoping to leave at 7:30. i usually give us 3 hours, and sometimes that's not enough. plus i dialed back the pace because of the distance. that early in the ride, i'd rather not risk having to wait in line for an hour or two. with bruce as our advance party, we could probably get away with 8:00, but i think it's too late to change that now. bring a magazine in case we get there super early. or, then we'll have time for the off-road option!

bruce, that would be great. i'm thinking 10:30. i'll try to remember to text you from wolf lake with how many people we are.

hey, do you guys want to upgrade from "might attend" to "attending"?  :-)

the beer gods giveth, and the beer gods taketh away. Revolution's Tap Room will be Closed. they're also having their Oktoberfest, and tickets are sold out. but they were $45, and there are only going to be 4 beers.

so, somewhere else instead? half acre? bad apple? fountainhead?
