The Chainlink

My apologies to the woman behind me on the inbound protected bike lane. My ice wipeout may have led to hers. And thanks to the guy on the Divvy behind us, who was able to avoid the ice, for checking on me. I reported the city...but no sign of salt on the protected bike lanes this a.m. Sadly, I learned too late. Looks like a day of back pain for me.

"reported to the city" that is.

Same complaint all over Twitter about Kinzie (that hill!) and Dearborn.  Careful out there.

Yes, there is patch ice and sneaky black ice all over. Ride carefully !

Yep, it's everywhere. Take it easy and keep the rubber side down.

Brian - Hope you're not hurting too much later.

Ice all over this morning -I made it to work OK by being, cautious, observant (I'm pretty good at reading surfaces) and taking the lane to stay on clear pavement. But if it's still like this by late afternoon I'm taking the train to my appointment downtown and then home. If I had my studded tires ready to swap onto something they'd fit on, I'd have used them! D'oh.

Yes, the ashtray didn't do much good keeping people off that stretch, but I applaud the effort.

Yeah...wish I'd paid more attention to that object placed at the entrance to the protected bike lane. I thought it was just pointing out the visible ice at snow at that corner...little did I know it was an indicator of the ice field ahead. I wonder how many went down on that patch this morning.  On that note, how much back pain does one normally endure before seeking medical attention? I'm not one for x-ray scans and what-not...but fear I may have done a bit of back damage. Apparently I'm not very good at falling after many successful years of upright bike riding.

Can anyone report on road conditions this afternoon? I'm wondering if I should Divvy home or not

I cannot see the street, but there is some sort of precipitation coming down in the loop right now.

Thanks, Lisa - I was wondering what it was like out there now.

What you need is a front disc brake! ;)

Thanks. Anyone been on Dearborn or Clark this afternoon? How's the pavement?
