+1 on the Lake Pepin 3 speed tour. Also Apple Cider Century is up there...

I've been considering the Tour de Shore, it looks like a blast, but I'm unclear on some points:

- After the second day ride to New Buffalo, does everyone pile on and bus back to Chicago, or do folks ride back to the starting point? If so, I'm assuming without SAG or rest stops, correct?

- Similarly for gear: the sites says they valet it to/from Chicago. If you don't take the bus back, is it waiting for you somewhere, hopefully secure, while you make your way back?

- The fees are not an issue, and I would be happy to donate additionally to the very worth cause, but I'm not a big fan of hitting up friends and family for pledges. However some rides do require this level of support; is this not the case?

Andy,

It seems like most people do the bus back.  Last year some folks I know talked about riding back, but when it came down to it decided to do the bus.  (I think they had signed up for it in advance because I do not think you can decide at the end to take the bus.)  Maybe someone else has ridden back and knows what they do with the gear when it gets back to Chicago.  It is a bit of a madhouse when the buses and trucks get back and everyone is collecting their stuff.

Last year was the first year they had pledges, and they were not required.  From looking at the site, I don't think they are required this year either.  I am also not a fan of pledges and have just made my own donations in the past.

Eventually, Steve Coughlin will probably see this post and give you the right answers. :-)

Finally, it really is a great ride.  Except for the bridge in Hammond.

Thanks Lisa and Andy,

Just curious - is there a good turnout for camping (vs. hotels)? Sounds like fun, but wouldn't want to be out there alone withe the crickets.

This is the part that would really concern me. I wish they had some sort of secure baggage / bike check, I would be more likely to consider the ride. IMHO

Bags coming off the buses (and bikes coming off the trucks) are not kept secure once they are unloaded. It is expected that the owner will be there.

Bike the Drive since anyone can ride. It's a lot of fun.

I also look forward to another Apple Cider Century, last year was my first.

I would really like to try the Le Tour de Shore, but worry about the lack of security at the Chicago dropoff.

I may do the North Shore Century this year.

There are a lot of great rides in our area so I am just going to name a few:
I'm hoping to do RAGBRAI again this year. It will be my second. My favorite long, organized rides are Tour de Shore and the Joliet Metric Century (something about 4th of July watermelon, great friends, and a trip to Culver's after makes it kinda perfect). I also love to participate in the Chicago Cross Cup (Cyclocross) and Palos Meltdown (mountain bike race) was incredibly fun last year.

People have brought up the Pierogi Ride a few times... I can't find any info about it. I tried to search Google with zero results.

I didn't see a Pierogi Ride... I saw a lot of ride to Pierogi Fest, is that the ride everyone is talking about?

But if you search thechainlink.org website for "Pierogi Ride," you get 14 pages of results.
