CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT TRUCK SLID OFF ICY BIKE PATH, SUBMERGED IN LAKE MICHIGAN

This is so funny!! Maybe the Park District will address this issue that bicyclists have been enduring for years.

During the winter there have many occasions  when I thought that I would slip into the lake at Oak Street.

I've fallen off my bike a few times at that location on the ice. Its not really fun or funny. The Park District closes that section in the winter because it's too dangerous for their equipment to plow. I was hoping they would extend the ongoing project to build a bike ramp beside the drive at the river crossing to include safety improvements to the path south of Oak Street as well, making the LFP a more viable year 'round option for bike commuters.

But that would actually be part of another much larger proposal to rebuild sections of the Outer Drive. Not something we will likely see in the near term, if ever.

Things were sure sliding into the lake from the LFP ! Always watch for icy patches when you cycle there.
