Free pour for that section of Chicago and adjacent sections of Halsted - love the idea. ;)

That section of Chicago is forever awful, and I believe it's because of the cement trucks that pull in and out of there all the time. That's a lot of extra punishment for a road. If I were Mayor, I'd demand a free pour from Ozinga every two years on that stretch. They could use it to showcase their latest premium blended concrete.

Chicago ave from Milwaukee east to at least Orleans(?) is completely tore up. As with any road construction, I'm upset that it's created an inconvenience, but glad that it's being repaved finally.

Who do we call to put that on the table--the alderman for that area? City dept. of transportation? Mayors office of shady contributions from the concrete industry?

Traffic Alert - Bryn Mawr and Kimball Traffic Closure

The intersection of Bryn Mawr and Kimball will be closed to traffic in both directions starting on Saturday, November 15.

Drivers should look for detour signs, which will be posted along Kimball. The current detour route for northbound Kimball is Foster to Kedzie; southbound Kimball drivers should take Peterson to Jersey/Kedzie.

The #82 Kimball Bus will also follow this detour route. Commuters should be aware of signs at bus stops with up-to-date information on the CTA detour.

(From the 39th Ward Newsletter)

Lincoln is milled from Sedgewick to the terminus at Clark & Wells. I used to take that to Wells every day, but then discovered that Sedgewick to Orleans is just a dream compared to the ugly melee that is rush hour on Wells.

Seriously--if your regular route includes Wells through Old Town, try Sedgewick to Orleans instead. Quiet, well paved two-way stop sign streets. Orleans gets a little hectic south of Chicago Ave., but it's easy to hop over to Wells on Institute or Superior.

I often used that route when I lived in Rogers Park. Also, northbound I'd continue on Sedgwick to its northern end, then head west on Grant Pl. to NB Geneva Terr. to its northern end, then over to Halsted.

State & Washington mess - Today I walked up State and discovered what's been causing the huge traffic snatu past our office. State was repaved recently, and now there's a huge hole in the middle of the intersection at State & Washington for yet another utility project.  Really?!?  Wasn't CDOT supposed to be coordinating with the utilities on this sort of thing?

Anyway, the excavation and barricades make half of the traffic lanes on each street out of bounds, so both EB Washington AND NB and SB State are an all-day mess. It's passable by bike, but it's road rage hell within a few blocks of that intersection, especially northbound.  If you need to take a bus that runs on this section of State, either make other plans or be prepared to go really slowly.  How slowly? This morning after rush hour, I spotted a #29 bus around Jackson when I started walking north. I was not walking particularly fast and it didn't watch up to me until Wacker.

HURRAY! The aforementioned strip of Chicago ave is done with repaving! It's like butter! Sadly, I don't believe they will be integrating a bike lane on there...

I guess we're meant to hop south to Kinzie instead. I've always dreaded that stretch, but it'll be more tolerable with fresh asphalt.

That stretch REALLY needs a bike lane. The road is wide, cars drive really fast, buses drive right next to the crub, and there's always a nasty bottleneck at the bridge over the river.

As of Friday Lincoln was also torn up north of Fullerton.  If anyone nearby has reports that's it's been repaved, those would be appreciated.  For now I'm just taking another route home.

Heads up the 18th St Bridge that connects Clark with Canal is closing for repairs this Wednesday until Apr 1, 2015. Detours will be Roosevelt or Cermak. This should be a fun one for southsiders.

That really SUCKS!  Of those options, I'd pick Cermak over Roosevelt any day. Just my $0.02...
