The Chainlink

Traffic 'round these parts dropped off pretty dramatically a few weeks ago... hard to tell from the "I rode today" thread who's still riding, as one would have to conclude that Gene is the only one out there most days by reading it....

Who's sticking it out and plans to continue to ride pretty much every day regardless of weather?

(Was winter 2013;   2014 starts on p. 36;   2015 starts on p. 61)

Glad for you, but could we hold off on the snow a bit more than a month? :-)

My studded tires just arrived yesterday. Looking forward to trying them out in a month or so!

Was just gonna say the same thing!

Eh, although I said "looking forward" it's not like I actually am hoping to have to use them. I would be happy if it didn't snow at all!

Will be riding the entire year again.  Rode in shorts earlier this week.  Yeah, that lasted about a day.  Actually had to break out the warm gloves and ear covering today.  Hoping to avoid a polar vortex season like we had last year.

also hoping we skip the polar vortex this year too!

Is anyone else already getting the "how much longer will you be riding?" I don't think it has even gotten below 40 in the city, and I am still just putting a couple of layers under my lightweight jacket when it gets below 50!

Totally.  And what kills me is that the people now asking me how much longer I'm going to ride are the same people that last winter (during the polar vortex) were asking me "are you still riding."  I believe that these questions are just a polite form of conversation.  Sort of like "how are you doing," except tailored to account for my known status as a cyclist.

Shorts are still where it's at! I ride shorts down to 34 degrees and then it's just a base layer tights under shorts down to about 5-10 degrees. Anything below 5 degrees then I put on the top-layer windbreak pants.

I will still be riding ..... hopefully my BEAST stays put together.... Gonna try to ride my road bike ('74 Schwinn Continental), "Conti" as long as I can.
wish me luck.

I'm hoping we have snow removal this winter. Think election year might work in our favor?

I vote we elect the candidate who promises no snow at all!

And Manny, glad to *see* you.

Ooh, let's hope!
