"Ryne San Hamel, the driver accused of fatally striking bicyclist Bobby Cann while drunk and speeding, has retained attorney Sam Adam Jr., whose previous clients include ex-governor Rod Blagojevich and R&B star R. Kelly. Adam also served on the defense team for Carnell Fitzpatrick, the driver who intentionally ran over and killed Chicago cyclist Thomas McBride in 1999.  "

That's next week!  What happened?  Why the quick turnaround?

Nice (automated) phone call from VINE ( https://www.vinelink.com/vinelink/siteInfoAction.do?siteId=14003 ) verifying the court date this coming Friday, November 7th but the phone call said Room 301, not 127 as I originally was told.

Perhaps someone from the Court Advocates could verify the correct room number.

The just-arrived email from Jason Jenkins of the Active Transportation Alliance said the one-week delay was because the new attorney (the famed Sam Adams, Jr.) didn't get all of the files from the previous defense attorney.  Given only one week to catch up, it seems to me that perhaps Judge Hooks is getting impatient. That just my opinion.

I did request a copy of the transcript to share from the hearing on Oct. 30th, but I was told it could take four weeks to get it!  Fortunately, for the earlier posted transcript I was able to communicate directly with the court reporter for that hearing, which is a member of and represented by the same union of which I am a member, the IBEW.  I got the .pdf file reasonably quickly, and then received a printed copy several weeks later.

I'll ask for the transcript again on the Monday 11/10 after this coming Friday's hearing.

Just to bump this reminder up to the top of the list:

Next hearing is FRIDAY, 7 November, 10 AM, Room 301, 26th and California.

Let's see what the new attorney, Sam Adams Jr., has to say.

(Maybe the Court Advocates have been disbanded; they've been awfully quiet lately.  Does the silence they're supposed to maintain mean they can't even post announcements about when the next court date is?  Does the Vow of Silence extend that deep?)

Thanks for the update, Bob.  This is such an ugly case, and there are many folks who want to see it fade from collective consciousness.  I really appreciate you taking the time to keep that from happening, by keeping us up to date.

Yes, do not let this fade.  There are many many more people who want to see this never fade than there is who might want to see it all just go away.  This first and foremost is about Bobby.  It's also about his family and friends.  And it's also about cyclists specifically and people in general.

A curious turn of events, how will this affect Sanhamel's new defense attorney?  Now will even further delays in the hearings be added?

Sam Adam Jr. explores running for state's attorney

Sam Adam Jr., 42, the brazen and colorful attorney who represented former Gov. Rod Blagojevich at his first corruption trial, is forming an exploratory committee to run for Cook County state’s attorney in 2016 against Democratic incumbent Anita Alvarez.

http://politics.suntimes.com/article/chicago/sam-adam-jr-explores-r...

No mention in the news about his client allegedly driving drink and allegedly causing the death of Bobby Cann.  It's old news, happening almost two years ago and since forgotten by many.

Interesting, indeed.  I'm not surprised, however, that Bobby Cann's case didn't make it into this particular article.  After all. it's no secret that Sam Adam Jr. makes his living by defending people accused of very bad acts.

What could prove more interesting for this case, though, is that he is now taking on the office he may seek to take.  Maybe this could make it more of of a "front burner" item for the State's Attorney, if Adams doesn't come up with an attractive plea.

Reminder; the next hearing is tomorrow,  Thursday, Dec. 4th
