I got mine at Boulevard Bikes.

Do they stock KoolStop pads which will fit in Dia Compe holders?  I realized something a few minutes ago - due to clearance problems, I can only fit up to a pad 50mm in length.  So the solution is to set up a set of Dia Compe (40mm) or similar stock brake holders for replaceable pads, and longer bolt length for half moon adjustable angle washers.  I think they are analogous (similar) to Weinmann X pads.

If you are in West Town, check with Ciclo Urbano or Comrade Cycles.

KoolStop is a brand and they make several types of pads for many different brakes, you really need to narrow it down a bit.

Kool-Stop makes all of their pads in the US !! With the exception of a few random disc brake pads, Kool-Stop is all we stock at Boulevard Bikes.

(there's a great Warsteiner sticker- "Life's too short to drink cheap beer")

Weinmann X.  Just ordered 30mm long metric M6 carriage bolts from McMaster.  I have to shave off some metal from the head  to make it work.

DUG!  Do you know where to find key locking metric M6 bolts?  They're not sold on McMaster.  Dia Compe used them in their brake holders but I need a 25mm to 30mm shaft.  This is why I got the carriage bolts instead, but if I could get these, I could just drop them in and call it a day.

But really, I'd just like some 40mm brake holders with 25mm threaded shafts I can install the retro Koolstops on and that would be terrific.  I can see that Mafac may have had something similar, but where oh where do I find them?  Maybe some rummaging at the Recyclery is in order....

Matt,

Try A-Metric on Clybourn just north of Fullerton. They are an old-school fastener shop run by a French couple.

I love that quote. Even tough Warsteiner is a cheap beer itself by today's standards

I bought something that will work well.  Binding screws.  Somehow I found 6mm binding screws.  40mm long with a partially blank shaft.  Amazing.  I can even cut facets near the head (since the shaft widens slightly) to keep it from spinning.  The threads start just as the shaft ends on the other side of the slot where the pads attach - it's almost perfect...or it will be.  The head is broader, giving the pad holder more support than the original key locking bolts.

Whew.  What a pain in the a** that was.  I just need the KoolStop pads to make sure I'm getting the bolt head positioned right.
