A year and a half later they're hiring a brake specialist? You'd think they'd have nailed this down by now. I don't know how good anyone's brakes are after a car has been sitting for a year and a half. Also, chain of custody? Where has this car been all this time?

Seems odd.

Rest assured I was on the internet within minutes, registering my disgust throughout the world.

Thanks for the update, John - particularly about the car.  I've asked about that after several of the last hearings and never got a response.

Who did you ask?

John's article makes it clear that his source is an interview with Bobby's attorney.

If you had attended the hearing you would not have known much more than what was included in the e-mail you received from Jason.

Also, it was about 4 months after the crash that they got his license revoked, so he won't get it back until a long time after this case is settled.  He had serveral DUI charges plead down in municipal courts.

I asked twice, on this forum.

I thought it had been reported all along via Jason's communications that the perp was trying to get the car back and the State was not letting that happen.

Anyways, glad to revisit your comment about Judge Hooks now that I have experienced him in person.

Bob, I wonder if it would be easy / cheap to get transcripts of the proceedings. I think that might help to fill in the gaps you're trying to understand. Maybe some of the smart attorneys here can provide some tips on how to get such resources.

After some consideration, I don't think this is a bad idea.  The transcript of the hearing on Sept. 9, 2014, a public document, is available at:

http://homepages.neiu.edu/~rkastig1/Hearing09-04-14.pdf

It did take some time for the document to get typed and made available and that's why it's taken so long to be made available.

A word or warning to those who have taken the "Vow of Silence":  since you have promised to not share this information, and to keep the results of the hearing private, you probably shouldn't view, download, or further distribute this public document, under the terms or your "gag order" from the 18th District Court Advocates.  Leave it for those of us who wish to follow the proceedings, to discuss the process in an open and unrestricted forum.

The next hearing is October 30th.  No guarantee I can get a transcript following that hearing.

There is no gag order, just the same request you received.

Bob, do you not receive the updates from Jason? Did he remove you from the list for "discussing the proceedings in an open an unrestricted forum?"

Here's what's really baffling to me.... they hold a Southside Critical Mass in Bronzeville or Hyde Park or wherever it was, and you make the trip down there from Albany Park to attend.... yet not once have you attended a hearing for Bobby at 26th and California. Does the problem have to do with the hearings being in the morning?

It was a great ride, and a nice night for it too.  I got to meet a lot of riders I've seen but never talked to.  It got dark too fast, so I didn't get to take many pictures, some posted at

https://www.flickr.com/photos/kastigar/15307642011/in/set-721576478...

The only reason I went is because it was the inaugural ride, and I wanted to encourage Oboi to continue this kind of thing.  He's also talking about setting up a "Slow Roll" program, a similar ride but during the daytime and starting a different locations to explore different locations.  I don't know much about this yet.

I'm sorry I seem to have veered off-topic but I did want to share this.

Translation of transcript into plain English, if anybody cares:

The defendant's lawyer wants to see his medical records from the jail hospital, which could reflect how much he had to drink. He needs the court to sign an order so he can get them. The court agrees.

The prosecution hired an expert witness to look at the car. The expert hasn't done that yet. When he's done, he'll write a report, and the prosecution will need to give it to the defense.

The Illinois State Police also intend to have their expert look at the car. The expert hasn't done that yet. When he's done, he'll write a report, and the prosecution will need to give it to the defense.

The defense asked the prosecution for some other items, but the prosecution only provided some of them.

It probably will go on like this for months.

Thanks, Maurice.
