"and failed to stop at the red light"

No one deserves to die but...don't be stupid! it's dangerous enough out there FOLLOWING the rules.

See, he is reported to have run the red BY the person that killed him... So I wouldn't take that at face value. The person that killed him didn't have a drivers license sooo they seem entirely reliable.

I really think that it is shortsighted to make any judgements based on the current information.  How often are the initial reports on this stuff not accurate?

Damn. Just south of blue city and jackalope. Damn.

I have no idea what happened in this case, but lots of drivers blow reds and stop signs in that area.

I would hope that the police aren't taking at face value the word of a guy driving without a license who has a heck of a motive to lie.

Mike Zumwalt didn't call him stupid; he just suggested to us not to be stupid.

Yea let's mourn this dead kid by calling him stupid. I'm sure his parents will appreciate that.

I spent some time looking through some of the online data for SF crashes involving bicycles a while back, and found that blame was placed on the cyclist about 50% of the time when they lived to tell about it, and darned near 100% of the time when they didn't.

None of us knows what happened because we didn't see it. There was a facebook post this morning with photographs, by someone who claims to live very close to where the incident occurred. That person's account indicated that the victim was traveling with a friend. I would expect (but don't know) that friend was a witness and also gave a statement.

Crash in Garfield Ridge kills bicyclist  (Too much of this is happening!!!)

http://voices.suntimes.com/news/breaking-news/police-crash-in-garfi...

A car fatally struck a bicyclist riding in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the West Side early Sunday, according to police.

About 12:45 a.m., Gary Reyes, 44, was riding his bicycle eastbound on 55th Street when a 2011 Chevrolet Impala turning onto Central Avenue struck him, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The bicyclist was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Elizabeth Lara-Salas, 37, of the 6200 block of South Mayfield Avenue, was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said. No charges have been filed and the Major Accident Investigations Unit is investigating.
