It's been a rough week.

I sent a Facebook Message to Jason McInnes at the Old Town School. He will be leading the jam on Thursday from 830 to 10pm. They will sing a song for Dan. Jason said that Dan had been one of his students. I don't think I can get there Thursday but will be singing a song for him wherever I am.

Thanks, David. I also work here at OTSFM and have let some of his teachers/friends here know as appropriate. Everyone shocked and saddened. Making music with Dan in mind at the end of the session jam will be great tribute. It's free and open to anyone - please join if you like to play music or sing. 4545 N. Lincoln (the new building) in the lobby. 7-10pm

So, not much resonance for a gathering at Davenport's.....

This is from the folks who run the karaoke at Davenport's on Fridays:

Howard,

Such sad, awful news :(  Alma and I send our love and condolences to all
his friends and family.

Kind of in shock right now.  Can only think of a few songs right off,
but Alma and I will put our heads together later, and between us all
we'll come up with a list.  The system doesn't keep a history
unfortunately.  Sam Cooke's "Having A Party" was his signature song --
he did it every time he joined us, which had to be close to a hundred
times in seven years.  So I really can't get that one out of my head
right now.

By all means we'll do a memorial night.  We don't know any of his other
friends outside of Davenport's, but if you can do invitations we'll put
this together.

Thank you for letting us know.

Take care,
Steve & Alma

Are you asking or saying this Howard?

Not necessarily! The more options the better - Dan got around and made impressions in many places.

But also keep in mind he is still technically just missing.  I say he's on a laker freighter that picked him up and he's teaching all of the merchant marine about playing the harmonica and The Boss

I would think there would be a lot of interest--tell us the date and time.  Also, I think when you originally posted we were hoping against hope that Dan was going to show up any second . . .

I guess it would be this or next Friday.  Doesn't have to be Davenport's. He spent a lot of time at Spyner's because it was close to his house (and maybe a-skeered enough of Maureen to never get completely banned from the place...)

I just think if we sit on our hands waiting for "closure" it could be several months.

And if he turns up on Aaron's frieghter, I'm sure he'll get a kick out of hearing about the get-together.

There seems to be a pretty broad range of positions on the acceptance/denial/grief/celebration continuum.

Back stroking through the locks. On his way to witness protection in Europe.

I vote for next Friday at Davenport's.  But don't wait for votes, Howard.  Just decide and tell us where to be and when to be there.
