The Chainlink

Original query:
Need a rec for a nice place to grab a bite. I tend to prefer small places, places off the beaten path, unusual or quirky in some way. Can be a little pricey. Anywhere in the city is fine. Thanks!

And now: the results (the mysterious NING gods gave us the power to edit an OP for eternity so why make anyone dig for this . . .)

my 2 cents;

La Palapa

2000 W. 34th St. McKinley Park

Damn good fish tacos.

Taco El Jaliciense

35th and S. Western

Really small taco joint. The chef sports one hell of an epic beard and the food is really good.

Lindy's Chili and Gerties Ice Cream

3685 S. Archer Ave. (Archer and Western)

Lindy's is an odd joint, part ice cream parlor, part burger and chili joint with a small bar tacked on the side that has an awesome beer selection. The chili is great and ya can order a 55 gallon drum of it if ya like but ya have to supply your own truck to get where your going.

Ah, the thread that keeps on giving.

 Arun's Restaurant/4156 N. Kedzie/773.539.1909/ High-end ($) Thai place for a very special occasion.

Salam (west) & Semiramis (east) sides of Kedzie @the CTA brownline/ fresh Middle Eastern at really reasonable prices. The fries w/garlic spread at Semiramis are a must.

Mysore Woodlands/2548 W. Devon/773.338.8160/ Vegetablarian Indian food. I always order one of the thali samplers because I can't pick just one entree.

Huey's/1507 W. Balmoral/773.293.4800/ Burgers & dogs. Fresh-cut fries, poppy seed buns, and my favorite veggie dogs.

Getting together with family and just for kicks decided to plot the coordinate equidstant to all of us, which turns out to be roughly Harlem and Addison?

What's a good option near there? We always seem to end up at corporate places, possibly because my sister is a coupon freak, but I'd be happy to find a good independent place. Kids have fairly vanilla taste so nothing too crazy exoitc.

I have not been there in a couple of years, but always liked Agostino at Diversey and Harlem.  Italian, so easy to please the kids, but good food for the adults.

They're a bit further north but I can think of 3 places that might work.

Vince's Italian restaurant on Lawrence and Harlem is good. Old Warsaw Polish buffet is right across the street but there are Polish places in Chicago that are better. Sally's Waffle Shoppe on Harlem and Higgins is good for breakfast or typical diner food.

Interestingly, the most recent YELP reviews are the most glowing, with some worrying entries further back.

Seems like they periodically had a couple of bad months. :-)  BTW, I would definitely choose this place over Vince's.  Vince's is more along the lines of the tradiitional American Italian food with lots of tomatos and lots of garlic.  Not bad, but not great IMO.
