The Chainlink

With all the talk and discussion about the Lake Shore Path and the North River extension is anything happening with the "Stone Bridge" project?

Many year ago a bridge was planned, approved, and financed to cross the North Shore Channel, between Lincoln Avenue and Devon, to join the paths on both the east and west sides of the river.

As of now you still need to go out on the street, cross the channel on the narrow street bridges on either Lincoln or Devon.

Following the election of a new alderman in the 50th Ward this bridge was supposed to be re-planned, approved and finance.

Is anything still going on with the project?

I haven't heard or seen anything, honestly didn't know this was happening...Have you attempted to contact their offices on via the Contact Form on their site?

No, since I don't live in the 50th Ward.  I would hope than any participants in the Chainlink who live in that ward would contact their alderman, Ald. Silverstein.

Sept. 10th is the next Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Council meeting, maybe the subject can be brought up there.

Last I heard this WAS happening.  But nothing ever has come of it.  Looks like if it is planned then it is going to be 2015.  As of the other day nothing was so much as marked out and I've never seen a surveying crew out there so much as measuring it out so as to draw up plans.

The way this city works it'll probably not even happen in 2015. Don't count on it until 2016 at the earliest.  I'd love to be proven wrong.  But I'm not going to sweat being called out on it.

"Dupppie?"
There's a blast from the past.....

I tried to do your work for you Bob but the phone just rings and then goes silent.

Maybe someone else will have better luck getting Bob his info.

"Happily, last month the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that it is allocating $20 million in Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program funds to bike and ped projects in the region, including $979,600 for the bridge, which will be located just north of Lincoln at Hood Avenue."

$979,600 seems like an awfully specific amount of cash to be "up in the air" about when it comes to a timeline.

Getting right down to the nearest $100 seems to be pretty hard to do when you don't even know when it is going to start or who is going to be contracted to do the work.

Such is the Chicago way...

Who is this Dupppie you speak of?

Probably because they know you don't live in the 50th ward.

Not how it works for me.  I can usually get what I want as long as I'm not dealing with my own ward.

I ride this every week, there's a disc golf course on West bank from Devon to Pratt. No construction. Lots of cars on those streets and narrow busy sidewalks on bridges. Where's that confounded bridge?

Jesus, I have no idea why Bob wants to memorialize this POS by naming the bridge for him.

It's right next to Berny's Wall.
