Milwaukee Ave. Complete Streets Meeting 7/2 - Lawrence to Elston

Ok, so last time Alderman Arena had a meeting, it seems it was packed by hostile nimbys.  This time, I'm trying to see how many willing participants we can bring to even things out a bit.

What: Public Open House, Milwaukee Ave Complete Streets Project, between Lawrence and Elston

When: Wednesday, July 2nd, 5pm - 8pm

Where: Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave.

I've shared this with Chicago Cycling Club folks. Got plans that night, but if that changes, I will try to be there.

The opposing petition is also linked in the article.  Looks like there's some organized opposition to this.  I won't be in town, but try to make the meeting if you can.

FYI, I will be there as well.  Looks like they ditched the public presentation part, so maybe that'll diffuse things as well, and we can just find a way to show our support.

Thanks for posting this thread! I set up an event on Chainlink a few days ago and we'll be blasting our members and supporters in the area later today as well as getting out some social media. Looking forward to seeing what alternatives they come up with!

Good question. My assumption was that they'll have the various plans laid out on paper for people to mark up, and the CDOT folks will be there doing their best cloud impersonation.

I'm thinking Ald. Arena chose the Copernicus because it's south of the Kennedy there.  The Gladstone Park area seems to have the greatest contingent of angry long time residents, and perhaps it's harder to get them further south (there is less parking around there). 

I'll be riding over as well, so my hope is that unlike last time, there will be far more people who are in favor of the change.

My argument is going to be: you or your relatives are going to want to sell these houses eventually. Wouldn't it be nice to have prices climb a bit because of younger folks actually wanting to live up here?

THat would be my guess - plans to mark up and people to talk to, similar to how the Streets for Cycling public meetings were done.

Out of all the fights to pick, why this one?  Why a far-flung stretch of Milwaukee?  For local riders there are other options and anyone going downtownish can take Elston.

Safer access to/from the Jefferson Park transit hub matters = Complete Streets.
