The truck entrance you mention does not give access to the Wolf Point constuction site. Also, the construction appears to be in the bike lane itself. Sewer or water replacement or something similar.

There is a truck entrance from Kinzie just east of the river.  I don't know if there is another entrance/exit from Orleans.  Before the deep freeze and never-ending snow, there were routinely trucks waiting on Kinzie just west of Canal in the bike lane.  Apparently Julia ran into them yesterday.

It is my understanding that construction traffic enters the construction site via N Orleans St. Is that not true?

It is the continuation of the wolf point construction chaos.  They have been excavating for a couple of months. Warmer weather probably allowed them to step it up.  It is going to get worse, I am sure, and we will all need to find alternative routes.

Has anyone heard anything more about the plan to move the protected bike lane to another east/west street?

Caught a lot of heavy machinery at Kinzie and Kingsbury today - dump trucks idling in the protected lane and big equipment forcing a lane shift through the intersection around noon. Is this the start of the wolf point construction chaos?

Yes, I saw the WB construction as I rode EB today.  There were a couple of dump trucks in the EB lane west of Canal, but it was no problem to go around them.  And I thought the same thing about just taking the lane WB, although it is a little more difficult in the evening when there seems to be more traffic.

If that truck entrance does not give acces to the Wolf Point construction site, where are the dump trucks I have seen coming and going there coming and going from and to?  Riding EB on Kinzie I can see the excavation on the east side of the river behind that Mart building.

I stand corrected. Immediately to the East of the river is indeed the entrance for construction traffic. I stopped by on my way home. A McHugh employee stopped and told me that the trucks are idling, because the entrance is uncommonly narrow.

In regard to the construction in the Kinzie bike lane, he said that it is Comed installing power mains to the Wolf Point project. There were no parking signs that had an end date of 3/21. So it will last a little while

Now at least we know!  It was not too bad westbound on the way home tonight.  The bike lane is blocked for a pretty short distance.

Rode to Navy Pier this morning on the LFP southbound, and saw the detour for the bike route for the first time.  I did not need to get south of Lake Point Tower, but I will soon, and was hoping someone could explain it!

What a beautiful bike day!  No complaints here!

The detour is only until Illinois. You can continue on the sidewalk to the front of Navy Pier and back onto the sidewalk after Illinois.

There is some serious construction going on at Archer and Western avenues !
Be careful !

Road construction on Kinzie again, just east of the river. Cyclists and drivers forced to merge together into one lane in each direction. Seemed to be working okay around 7:45 this morning.
