Information

Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society

Every member of the Society (CBES) should aspire to have a beer at every brewery or brewpub located in a day or two bicycle ride distance from Chicago (and, of course, within the city limits).

Naturally, preferable way of getting to is by bike, as for riding back . . . whatever is available, train, bus, horse and buggy, depending on amount of beverages consumed at the destination.

Ok so maybe not hauling as much as I remember but we did get a flat on the 3rd leg so not sure if that factors into your average speed.

That was one of my favorite rides from last year!

Do you have that for Carlyle Pigs ride? We were hauling a$$ that day!

Just joined, but, I've ridden my bike to, and enjoyed beer at, brewpubs that don't be there no more.

I can't join you this weekend or the next, but maybe for the Salt Creek beer trip.  Missed you at Temperance a while back.

Adam, saying something like that is more of a Lee Diamond thing (http://www.thechainlink.org/events/liar-s-ride-2014).  We try not to tread on his yearly ridiculous turf.

You guys totally missed the chance to say that CBES participants all ride penny farthings in a peleton at 30 miles an hour.

All good info to know. Thanks everyone. Do organizers usually print cue sheets or maps for everyone?

I'll second what these guys said. We do sometimes get stretched out pretty good ... even up to a mile between first and last rider. The front riders will almost always stop at tricky spots or turns to make sure no one's left behind.

We typically try to go about 12mph. But in all honesty, it's just a tad bit faster than the slowest rider to edge he/she on to go a bit faster.

If you want to ride faster than the lead and know the way, do so. We usually do and wait for everyone to catch up, especially at an intersection if there's a turn.

Bring a lock, a bungee cord for the Metra back, a flat kit (spare tube/pump/tools), your credit card (for taxi back if something goes terribly wrong with your bike) :)
