Description

It's time for an April ride on the scenic Prairie and Fox River Trails!

We'll catch the 8:30 Union Pacific Northwest out of Ogilvie to Crystal Lake. From there we'll take the Fox River Trail south. First stop will either be Emmett's or Village Vintner for light lunch and beer. Then we'll proceed another 18-26 miles to Penrose Tap Room which I can't wait to try! From there it'll be a final 11 miles to the Two Brother's Roundhouse. Total distance is a bit less than 50 miles.

BNSF home from the Roundhouse at 4:20, 6:20, and 8:20 with a limit of 10 bikes per train. If there's a lot of us then some can ride 11 miles back to Geneva to catch the 6:37 or 8:37 Union Pacific West back to Chicago.

Please bring:

-water

-layers

-lock

-bungee for Metra

-extra tube

Minimum average speed is 12 mph

Joe James and I plan to ride on Saturday.  I live in West Dundee, not far from Emmett's.   We would like to meet you in the morning either on the bike path between Crystal Lake and West Dundee, (I think that 8:30 am train gets to Crystal lake at 9:50am) or we could meet you at Village Vitner or Emmet's, but it looks like you have not made a def decision about the first stop.  Is there any way we an get a cell phone number for you so we can figure out where to meet you on Sat am?

I don't want to tempt fate but forecast for Saturday is a high of 72! We'll have a headwind but shouldn't be half as bad as when we did this last November.

I'm cool with that Serge. We might be at Vintner's a few minutes before they open either way.

This looks super cool! Thank you for organizing! I think it's a little early in the season for me to do this many miles, I love that it's spaced out a bit!

I would love to, but I have to be at a semi-formal event for work that evening. It seems like showing up to such things in head-to-toe bike gear after a long day of riding has been frowned upon in the past, so I guess I should pass this time.

I'm with Rich. I would go back on Saturday

Ah crap forgot you were doing Crown Point that weekend. I might do the Saturday but I would ride back to the city that afternoon.

The ride I'm cooking will now be served on May 31.

I'm cooking up another ride for May 17 at this very moment Will!

We'll play by ear as to first stop. I don't doubt that it's meh but I've been to Emmett's before. Plus this is a bike ride and if the roads to get there are nice then we should ride em!

Penrose is really the highlight of the ride for me. I posted a revised route this morning including both potential first stops.
