Does anyone know if the North Branch Trail (at Devon) is flooded?

I rode it on Sunday with one of my daughter's from Dempster to the Botanic Gardens - shortly before you get to Happ there is a 20-30 yard stretch that is completely covered and the tunnel, reportedly, under the Edens is very icy (we detoured up to Winnetka Road). Also near the Gardens there are several spots that are still covered.

Someone should get in touch with the flame thrower snow melting dude and ask if he can clear that up.

I think I live not far from Gopher. My wife and I rode to the garden yesterday as well. I feared the trail would not be good so we meandered through Wilmette and made our way to Hibbard/Willow Forestway.

At Tower we decided to take the trail up to the garden. it was find where thee was sun. In more treelined areas there were a couple patches that required caution and one that required feet to come off the pedals. As the path turns to parallel Dundee where it starts to circle back it was covered in snow and ice.

We decided to avoid the path on the return trip and took Lake Cook up the little hill to Green Bay/Church...Ridge south until it becomes Crawford.

The garden is incipience. Everything is ready to come but not quite out. It should be a delight in a few weeks and by then the trail will be open end to end.  (photo credit Ellen Blum Barish)

I rode the trail from Central south to Pulaski yesterday, and it was obviously crazy muddy, but super fun.  I'll have to do some trail maintenance in a few weeks, there are a few trees that need to be moved off the trail

@David - that bit by Dundee was horrible, we went out on the street for that part. We also decided not to take the trail back as well (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/470619171)

Which trail are you talking about?

Gopher, I checked out your map. Is Gross Point Rd a decent biking route? I've never been on it, but it looks like a handy SW route.

Gross Point is ok for bikes. Its not great but is certainly an acceptable road.

Another, more EW road that is suitable for biking: Last Friday I rode Glenview Rd East to Sheridan Rd. Generally decent road (a wide 2-lane road with speed limits at 30-35 mph). Cars have plenty of space to pass you safely.

Kelvin - it is an okay road to ride on but not if traffic makes you nervous. The bit between Central and Golf is single lane in each direction without a paved shoulder. Once you get south of Golf there are two lanes in each direction but the right lane between Church and Dempster is pretty rough (this winter hasn't been kind to that section). The intersection near Dempster is busy because a lot of cages are trying to get to the Edens. I generally just take the right lane and don't worry about it too much. BTW - the bike lane by Lovelace Park are horrible (especially the NE side).

I take Glenview Rd. from Waukegan Rd. to Evanston and back for my commute. While there's room for improvement, it's probably the best east-west route in the area.

I took a picture of the tunnel. It was really bad. The great thing about yesterday? Every cyclist was giving everyone heading to the tunnel warnings so that they wouldn't unknowingly ride into it.
