The Chainlink

I expect most of us have a few pairs of jeans folded and no longer worn at home, thanks to those inevitable "blowouts" that come from constant friction with the saddle. Brooks saddles really seem to speed up that process. Some of these jeans can be awfully expensive - does anyone on the Chainlink offer repair services? I don't have a sewing machine and would happily pay for a tidy repair and reinforcement. I'm surprised SWRVE, Levi's, et al don't reinforce the hell out of that... area.

Please let me know if we can do bidnez.

there's obviously a market for affordable GrundleTech/BatchPatch reenforced pantswear. I'm off to kickstarter.

  1. Urban Dictionary: grundle

The prime piece of real estate located conveniently between Scrotumburg and Anusville.

I get mine fixed at the drycleaner for about $10.  They take old jean fabric (lighter weight works better) and sew it down inside.  They sew back and forth over it with a zig zag stitch, which holds the hole together.  Presto, new riding jeans.  Not club jeans - riding jeans.

Look, this person shows you how: http://bitsnbikes.blogspot.com/2010/08/mending-jeans.html

I'm wondering if adding reinforcement (with a patch) prior to wear would extend the life of our beloved jeans. Anyone ever try this?

tiny fix had a great tutorial on their website that you can probably manage yourself without the sewing machine, but would require a trip to the fabric store.  the iron on though isn't a denim patch but a flexible fabric patch.

don't know what do with my black pants.  the dye is rubbing off in the saddle region.  also the "s" on my vintage saddle is rubbing off too.  :(

iron ons never worked for me.  i had a few of my ridiculously expensive and favorite (diesel, 7) jeans eaten up by a saddle in my, um, saddle area. i did have them fixed, successfully even. i'll post pics later.

but what i noticed is that its exactly the expensive jeans that were getting eaten up. they were of a finer, softer denim. my hearty levi's shown worn spots but held up quite well.

they too eventually wore through, but its much easier parting with $35 jeans than $180 ones. (i know, i was dumb, but they made my ass look good?) never again.
