The Chainlink

Holy cow - has it been a year since I made the 2012 thread?! Indeed, it has!

Based on the calendar event, it looks like a good amount of people have RSVPd to ride. Even if you haven't, and were looking for some people to ride with, post in this thread.

Which distance will you be riding? And, at which pace are you planning to ride?

I'll be riding the classic century @ a somewhat comfortable pace. After starting this cycling season well, my conditioning is questionable as I have only been on the bike a handful of times since June. Yikes. I'm looking for some people who might want to ride between 13-15 mph average.

The forecast is shaping up to look like it's going to be a great day for riding! I'm sure people remember the weirdo weather last year - much cooler. I remember waking up and heading out @ 5:15AM and it being 39 degrees!

Signed up for the 100. May ride a shorter distance, depending on my cycling friends and the weather.

I'm doing the 70 mile route not sure about speed more then likely comfortable around 13-14 but depends on how I feel that day.  Does anybody know how flat the route is cause I'm thinking of doing it on my fixed gear.

I haven't seen the route yet, but if it holds similar to the past years, it's remarkably flat. If I remember correctly, the only 'climb' was on the return leg in or around downtown Waukegan, as we had to ascend a bridge/overpass sort of thing. And, it must've not been that bad, because my front derailleur was borked last year and I still managed to comfortably climb in my 44T ring. ( I think it was 44/28. )

Riding the metric no faster than 12 to 13. I will get an early start again.

It was cold last year early in the morning, but it warmed up to be a beautiful day.  This one looks like it will start out warmer and also be a beautiful day!

same here, I am scheduled to raise money for Over the Rainbow (OTR) charity and do the 100. Peggy will do a shorter distance. Her sister Betsy from Italy is presumeably doing the 100 also.

I'm looking at the metric and a stately 13-14 mph pace. Would love some company.

I wish I was free to ride it this year, but my SIL went and decided this is the weekend to go and get married. I was not given the option to decline the invitation by my wife.   Have fun everyone.  The NorthShore Century is a great ride.

I'll have to make do with just doing the Apple Cider this fall.   Anyone else doing that one too?

What is a SIL?

Yao and I are doing the 100, and I plan to leave close to 6am. We will be hovering around 16, let me know if you would like to join us.

Oh, sorry.  Got carried away with the TLA's.

SIL = Sister In-Law

It's a fairly common 'net acronym.

See also BIL, MIL, FIL...

That's not a very Italian sounding name... :-)

Will she be able to tolerate our lack of hills?

I'd love to join you guys, if you want one more! I'm also hoping to start the 100mi route right at 6am and maintain a brisk pace as well. 16+ sounds perfect.

Kiltedcelt - I'm also tweaking a few fit things as well. I purchased a new bike about 4 weeks ago and rode it for the 62mi Bike & Chow, but still adjusting things here and there on longer rides. I was thinking about putting the selle italia seat I've been drooling over on in time for this ride.

Deet, after seeing you this morning I was going to see if you were riding. I'm planning on doing the 100 as well and was hoping for about 16 average. I'm riding a new bike though and might have fit issues that crop up a after some distance in. I how that won't be the case since this bike is almost identical in geometry to my other one. I'm not so sure about a 6:00 AM start though. I'm shooting more for getting on the road no later than 7:00. Maybe I'll see you guys at one of the stops.
