North Riverside Police Investigating Fatal Accident Involving a Pedestrian.

On Wednesday April 3, 2013 at approximately 3:34 am, North Riverside Police responded to several calls of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 2300 block of Harlem Ave. Responding officers found the unresponsive victim laying in the roadway south of 23rd Street. The victim was transported to Loyola Hospital by NRFD paramedics and was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later.

An accident reconstruction specialist from the Illinois State Police was summoned to the scene to assist with the investigation. The southbound lanes of Harlem Ave between Cermak Rd. and 24th Street remained closed for approximately 3 ½ hours to allow investigators to process the crash scene and collect evidence.

The victim is identified as 51 year old Anthony J. Catalano of Bolingbrook. A bicycle was located at the accident scene, but it is unclear if the he was riding or walking the bicycle at the time of the accident. His body has been transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a 28 year old male, was cooperative with investigating officers and submitted to breath and chemical tests. This incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
