I work at the airport, so commute west in the morning (about 8.0 mi), and back east in the evening. For me, the last couple of commutes have been interesting.
Some serious extra layers (including an amazing polar balaclava (with a detachable face mask, that (wonder of wonders!) doesn't fog up my glasses), silk(thank you, Cabelas!) long johns/sock/glove liners), and a pair of wind overpants) on the ride out, that I had to carry on the way home.
Had my first brush with frostbite (fingerpads) yesterday. Talk about BURN! Never had this on the bike before, and think my new BP med may have reduced my circulation. Getting old sucks :).
Also, amazing contrast between the trips out and back. About 10 degrees, some sunshine, and about a 40 mph wind differential sure make a lot of difference. Gloomy, substantially subzero windchill, and a 15-25 mph headwind on the way to work; sunny, 25-35 degrees, and a 15-25 mph tailwind on the way home. Gotta love Chicago.
At least the wind did not shift. ;-)
I have heard of people having circulation difficulties with some of the BP meds. Be careful!

Beeeutiful morning along the lakefront today. A little chilly, but calm, crisp, bright and very invigorating. I'll take it!
I like it--but Foxtrot.
Very pretty, but I am looking forward to the days when I don't have to wear clothes in the morning that I will have to pack to take home.

very beautiful morning....
summer of my oldest dreams
why do you stray
and hide
behind March's cold uprisings?
Come to me as in days of yore
wrap me in your tender leaves
whisper sweet slender stems
of damp soil, ferny greens
Yes exactly. I am going to incorporate "Foxtrot" into my speech.
Also, this morning I proved that Marathons do not keep a person any warmer than Gatorskins. Then again, the Gatorskin was pretty worn out and the Marathon is new, so I guess my science is non-rigorous.
Yesterday was nasty but nice. The sun able to warm you but the wind cutting through as well.
But there is snow in the forecast for Sunday night/Monday! This is Chicago. Who knows what spring will bring?

After 10 weeks of high rolling resistance riding (and zero falls) I removed my metal-studded fatties today. I loved them intensely, and they loved me back, but our time together was never meant to last forever.
About to venture into the warmth. That's right, warmth. Goal today: 27 miles for 27 years
