Late entry - Loved the single digit wind chill !!! 12 degrees temp when I left the house.(Was wednesday 02 Jan 2013) Was cold and froze my hands and feet. Bought some DeFeet glove inserts on the way home. Were warm for initial ride. Will see how they do for the rest of the week. Used two balaclavas, helmet was worn but no strap needed. Was choking me anyway. No more strapping to adjust. Had to take goggles off, fogging really badly.

Thursday, 03 Jan 2013 - Stepped out into 16 degrees. Using glove liners. Kept my hands warm. Used a set of old school thermal bottoms under military "ninja suit bottoms" (thin base layer- PolarTec - it's my normal, everyday wear for cold weather). Feet froze due to cuffs cutting off circulation to feet. Gonna cut the cuffs, or part of legs. We shall see. Going goggle-less, will see how that works out.

Friday, 04 Jan 2013 - Stepped out to 26 degrees. Felt like a heat wave ! Single layer for everything. Glad I went to NotoriousDUG's class on cold weather clothing. Just using my UnderArmor Cold Gear longsleeve (Brown) and my Hi Tech wind & waterproof thinly insulated jacket (OD Green) on my top, Polar Tec base layer pants and Walgreen's sweatpants (sometimes legs down, sometimes up) for my legs, and my Walmart Survivor brand insulated and waterproof boots with single pair of wool socks.

All my rides home are warmer, so I adjust.

Have a Great Weekend out there, Ladies and Gentlemen !!!

Stay warm !

Respectfully,

Manny

Beautiful pic. Thanks for sharing!
Rode in southeast Wisconsin mountain biking snow covered trails! Refreshing!

Thank you, Donna. I was curious if anyone had ever seen build-up of sand at Belmont Harbor. It is hard to see, but if you look closely at the water in the photo, there are multiple mini-sandbars. It would be impossible to get in and out of the harbor now.

Gene! Sand at the entrance to Belmont Harbor?!?  I don't even know how that could happen.  I will be over there later this week and will have to have a look.

Yup. Inside the entrance and in many other spots. I have seen this happen at Montrose Beach pier at the curved part, but never anywhere else.

Yesterday was my first day of riding in 14 days. A miserable cold kept me off my bike. How great to be back even if I'm still not 100% healthy.

What do you kids wear in the cold weather such as this for your legs?  I've been rocking basically long underwear under my jeans, and its been fine, but I feel pretty sluggish.

My wife bought me a new pair of wind pants from REI for Christmas (Novarra brand, not sure of the product name).  They are lined and have an extra panel in the front for more wind blockage.  They are somewhat baggier than normal cycling tights, but not so baggy that you need pants straps. I wore them for the first time today.and they worked fine.

UnderArmour long underwear/tights.
