Just One Reason Why Riding the Metra Train is More Fun Than Driving a Car

This took place about midnight on the Union Pacific North Line, running south from Kenosha to Evanston, 12/21/2012.  Fun!

Thanks. That was great.

very very cool. thanks for sharing.

WAY better than the Mayan end of the world doomsday prophecies     ("about midnight ...12/21/2012. ").....

Very cool! My Metra commutes occasionally offer some interesting characters to watch, but nothing as fun as an impromptu jazz jam.

That has to be the coolest Metra ride ever!

That's pretty much the antithesis of my rides back to my in-laws in Joliet. I once watched a fist-fight break out. Who fights on a train, aside from Jason Bourne? Get it together, people.

don't forget james bond.

Too many dumbasses on the Rock Island.  *sigh*

Wish I'd been on that UP-N train. I know that band. The banjo player was a friend in high school.

And Chuck Norris (skip to 1:28 for the relevant scene) - thoroughly cheesy movie but effective use of Chicago location shooting.

That fine banjo player, Gus Friedlander, plus the majority of the other musicians on that particular train, can be heard most Tuesday evenings between 7 PM & 10 PM at Evanston's Celtic Knot Pub on Church Street (no cover).

So, which Tuesday are we riding, or perhaps in Anne's case taking the train, to Celtic Knot?

Bring an instrument and sit in, David!  Or at least enjoy a tall pint of Guinness, Magner's or Smithwick's in a friendly pub.  I often play an Irish frame drum, called a bodhran, which is the instrument of many of us folks who possess no musical talent whatsoever.  ("What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?  A drummer.")
