The Chainlink

It was so nice to see so many riders out today ! Ran into someone I knew today and yesterday on the road which was pretty cool. Today at Lincoln and Barry (ish) I was stopped at a light with 3 other riders. I asked if any of them were on the chainlink and one girl was. At a light on Southport I started talking to another rider, who when I asked if she was on chainlink said no, but was wondering what it was since she saw the sticker on the back of my helmet.

It's gonna be a great spring and summer!

I agree! I love having the streets full of bicycles again.
Ahh yes the fair weather riders are back. Man are they slow. and in my way. Good to see them back though.
It was a ridiculously long and brutal preseason, but today has that glorious Opening Day feel to it. Lots of people out and lots of sun
lol...

I'm glad more people are out there, fair weather riders or not. I flatted on Elston near Milwaukee this morning. While I was swapping tubes, at least three passing cyclists checked with me to see if I was OK. It made me smile. Sure, some of us may pass to closely, or be too slow, or do some other annoying thing, but it was nice to know that the cyclists with whom I share roads and bike lanes have my back.
Hey Julie! That was me :) Awesome to meet you!!!
yeah yeah yeah, it's great to have people on bikes and such, but all the fairweather riders need to:
a) LEARN TO RIDE YOUR EFFING BIKE!
b) STOP DRAFTING.
c) STOP WEAVING ALL OVER THE ROAD
d) ride your bike during the winter so you can be as bitter as me.
And if you're on a ghetto tandem, don't almost crash into me on my way home from work and then giggle about it.

Good to see considerate cyclists in greater numbers though.

Just wondering what does a ghetto tandem looks like? Does it have spinners on the wheels?
Nice!

While, we're complaining. I'd like to give broken spokes to

  • the people with little yappy dogs on the path that don't have them on a short leash, I really don't want to crash because your dog decided that it had to get that squirrel on the other side of the path
  • the runners with ipods, I run on the path as well and I can understand wanting to listen to music, but please at least look back before turning without warning and keep the volume low enough that you can't hear me warning you
  • those 4 person rental pedicab things, you haven't made an appearance yet but you will. And I will hate you for taking up half the path while going at ludicrously slow speeds.

I don't think drafting is so bad, it's just that they draft without letting you know. I don't want to first learn about a drafter by getting an impromptu colonoscopy with a bullhorn or aerobar because I had to brake hard to avoid something. Also, if they're going to draft, the least they could do is say thanks for pulling into the wind for them over a few miles.
