The Chainlink

I signup for the Share the road bicycle plate back in Nov, having paid my $17 fee. I guess in Feb or march they got the required 1500 commitment, will start making the plates. I got a letter in early april from  Secretary of State, that as soon as I pay, they will start mailing on April 30th. I paid $133 for plate renewal with additional fee for the Share the road plate. My problem is, my plates expired on April 30th, I am now driving on expired plates. I need my car for work, I bike to work normally, except since April 30th, it was forecasted rain every day in coming days too, so I need my car.

Has anyone who signed up, gotten their plates? Also how can find out my status with the plates. what will the police do?, I normally don't have police behind me, but last week 3 of those days, I had a police car behind, maybe lucky that they were probably getting ready to go home.

I have no proof to show, and my check has yet to be cashed. Plus my exhaust just got a hole in it and is making a lot of noise, possablie attracting police.

any tips would be helpful... thanks in advance......Jerry

Gina,

Have you heard anything about the production of the personalized plates?  I sent in my application the day after I received the letter in early April.  My plates expired today, so I had to pay a second time to renew my old plates.  The Secretary of State's office has no record of my application and the call taker I was referred to in Springfield was no help.  I'm hoping to receive verification that they received my application.

Thanks for all of your work in coordinating with the Secretary of State's office on this program.

Mark;

I know how you are feeling, I had the same problem with mine, my sticker expired and I didnt get my plates for 3 weeks, Secretary of state said to renew and get a refund when plates arrives. I drove with expired sticker for 3 weeks, even had police behind me 4 times, they didn't do anything, so I was lucky. I live in the Chicago and maybe they aren't that concered. Good luck, hope you get your plates soon. My plates were random numbering.

Mark,

I'm a little confused -- did the Secretary of State's office have no record of your initial reservation or, they have record of your reservation form/fee, but not the rest? Unfortunately, it appears that the Secretary of State's office lost several of the checks/forms sent in April. If they have no record of any of it, you can now order the plate online at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/vehicles/license_plat.... Feel free to email me at gina@bikelib.org or call me at (708) 334-2244.

Thanks!

-Gina

When the secretary of states office sent out letters asking for the $ for the preordered plates, the personalized letter intended for me actually went to another cyclist along with his personalized letter. I was lucky since he knows me and gave me my letter. Others may not have been so lucky.

I have mine on my car now ;-)

I called the I-Pass folks to be sure that I entered it correctly on my account. Needless to say, they did not have it in their lists yet, but I am on record as having asked and that they put it in the way they think it should be (1488BK). I had issues with this in the past with antique car plates, so I opted to strike first.

Got my plates about a month ago and finally drove my car for the first time yesterday. Looks good!

I saw a car with the "Share the Road" plates on my way back from the Horribly Hilly Hundreds this past Saturday

Received my new plates last week and got the car out finally today to show them off!

I'm seriously thinking about getting these, but I'm not sure if they are worth the $51 fee.

1.5 m is quite generous compared to what the average Chicago driver gives you. Was that retort directed at the cyclist or driver?

oh my goodness - i totally forgot until I saw one. They look so cool!
