Hey, thanks for the Traffic Report. I like the idea of posting road hazards, especially when the commute home is after nightfall.

Traffic Report: NB Damen from Belmont to Addison (approximately) is fubar. The shoulder is under construction, and there are potholes galore. Recommendation: re-route!

With the warmer Weather I am now doing my Normal commute. With Colder temps I was only getting 22-23 a day but now I'm back to 26.

In spots there is too much salt, but for the most part the Lake Front Path is pretty well maintained. It gets plowed pretty regularly, and is pretty clean. Most of my salt issues are from the roads I ride on.

Do they put too much salt on the lfp after it snows?

Commuting from Hyde Park to the Loop for 2 years now, year round. Living near the lakefront makes it easy, and riding from the south seems so much less congested than riding from the north. Plus, the southern view of the skyline every morning is a nice treat. I'm looking forward to the path around the Shedd Aquarium opening again.

I usually ride from Willow Rd and I-94 to North and Western Ave. 3 times a week, mostly on the tall bike.

Yes, that would be what I mean. Your plan sounds fun, but sticky.

Heh, I think you mean a balaclava. A baklava is a delicious dessert.

I think we need to have a baklava balaclava ride. We ride to eat baklava and we wear our balaclavas.

It would be great.

This is my second winter in Chicago, but my first winter biking (I'm from the South). Not bad so far, but I know it hasn't really started yet. Right now I'm getting by with a merino wool shirt and a Craft windbreaker (which is fantastic). Also, earmuffs, wool socks, and khakis or jeans. The fancy winter cycling gloves that a friend bought me don't work for anything, but my old sheerling lined suede "fashion" gloves work very well so far. I'll definitely be buying a bakalava (sp?) soon! The wind and the fact that my nose runs like a faucet in the cold are my biggest problems.
