The Chainlink

Hi there! This is only my second RAGBRAI and am trying to figure out the logistics of getting out to Glenwood with another rider. (Dropped our car off in the end town last year and drove a rental out to the starting town.) I was wondering if any in the Chicago area might be interested in working out some kind of rideshare? I also heard of a shuttle leaving from around Niles, which would drop riders off in Glenwood and then pick them up in Davenport. Thanks!

You can go with a charter like "Out of Staters Bicycle Club" which charged I think $225 for bringing me from the end town to the beginning and then carrying luggage and setting up a sometimes smaller campground and always a beverage tent in each town.

Why rent a car when you can go with a few hundred fellow riders and leave the driving to somebody else.?   http://oosbicycleclub.com  I couldn't get into the site this morning, but I'm sure that's right.

I've used them many times.

Thanks for the tip Kathy! I will check them out. The only other service I know of that provides transportation from Chicago to and from Iowa is this one - http://www.shuttleguy.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=139 Hopefully one of these options will work out!

See you in Iowa!

Elizabeth

The shuttle from Niles is through Amling's on Milwaukee....  The owner is multiple year RAGBRAI vet....
I found out last night that my team has a few open spots.  We provide A place to camp in davenport Friday night where we can also leave our cars.  Transportation from Davenport to Glenwood on Saturday.  Luggage support all week.  We also have housing most if not all nights (usually setting our tents in the yard, but sometimes with use of indoor plumbing.  I believe the family that is hosting us in Coralville is having a pig roast for us.  Most of the guys are into home brewing and micro brews, so there will plenty of that around during the week as well.  If you are interested I can put you in touch with someone in charge of that stuff.
That sounds pretty great, but my friend and I actually decided to go with the Niles / Shuttleguy - it should be nice hitching a ride directly to and from Chicago :) Hopefully I'll see you and some of the other riders at Julie's get-together on the 25th!
That's right....  It's Shuttleguy that provides the service from Amling's....  Not sure about the 26th....  That's so far off still!!!!
Larry, do you still have open spots? My wife and I are first-time RAGBRAI riders, and could use some logistical assistance.

Timothy,

If you mean on the team, I just a passenger and it is my first year with the team.  I can contact someone and find out about spots if you want?  Are you looking for a ride from Chicago?  From Davenport?  Luggage service for the week?  And, as far as I know, our team does not carry riders without wristbands.  I don't know if you are registered or not.  My old team did carry riders without wristbands.  Their driver contacted me last week to let me know they had openings,  (Just keep in mind that there are reasons that I choose not to go with them anymore!!!!)  If you let me know what arrangements you have and/or need, I know I can steer you in some direction.  Having done this a few times, I know a few people in a few places.

Larry

We have wristbands, but are looking for transportation from Davenport to Glenwood on the 23rd. Brancel charters still has space, so I think we'll probably sign up with them.
